Vein Clinic Procedures

Spider veins are caused by a variety of factors, including heredity, pregnancy (and other conditions that involve changes in hormone levels), weight gain, long periods of standing, trauma and certain medications. They often appear red, blue or purple.  Because spider veins can form anywhere throughout the body to include the face, neck, chest, abdomen, back, arms, hands, legs, ankles and feet, many patients are bothered by the way they look. Others seek medical treatment for uncomfortable symptoms such as aching, burning, swelling and cramping. The standard treatments for spider veins are sclerotherapy and laser treatments.  Sclerotherapy can also be used to treat medium-sized veins and varicose veins.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive medical procedure used to treat spider veins, medium-sized veins and varicose veins commonly found on the legs.  Sclerotherapy has been used on patients since the 1930s with great success, producing increasingly effective medical, as well as cosmetic, results.

During sclerotherapy, a sclerosant solution is injected into the unsightly or damaged veins. This will cause irritation in the affected veins and produce their eventual collapse. With time, the body then dissolves and absorbs the treated veins until they eventually disappear.  Several treatment sessions may be required for effective clearing of the veins.  Some patients do very well with single sessions.

Foam Sclerotherapy

Foam sclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to treat medium-sized veins and varicose veins. These types of venous conditions result from weakened valves which keep the veins from functioning properly and allow blood to pool in the veins. Varicose veins may be not only unattractive but medically problematic. During a Foam Sclerotherapy session, a micro-foam version of a sclerosant solution is injected into the affected veins, causing their eventual collapse. A medical grade compression stocking is used on the treated leg for 1-2 weeks to assure collapsing of the treated veins.  These damaged veins will be absorbed by the body and blood flow will naturally be rerouted through other, healthy veins. To ensure that all abnormal veins in the treatment area are treated, foam sclerotherapy is performed with the aid of a special Vein-Lite which allows the physician to see hidden veins under the skin.

Laser Vein Removal with Cutera® CoolGilde®

Manufactured by Cutera®, the CoolGlide® laser is a versatile Nd:YAG laser system that can be used to treat vascular lesions and veins.  It is a sophisticated medical grade laser that is only operated by Dr. Torres.

Many men and women develop unsightly, and sometimes painful, veins on the face and/or body which can significantly affect their quality of life, both physically and emotionally. The Cutera® CoolGlide® laser can effectively remove these veins through a series of treatment sessions that deliver pulses of laser energy to the affected area(s).  The majority of results are often seen in a single treatment.
